Governance
In accordance with the formulated goals, the governance of BerlinUP is also based on the principles of openness, transparency, and science orientation.
The libraries of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin are responsible for BerlinUP. The following structures are established or under development:
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors consists of the four library directors of the Berlin University Alliance institutions. The Board of Directors is in charge of the long-term strategy, represents the publishing house at its own institutions, and is responsible for overarching questions of budget and personnel responsibility as well as for legal matters.
Scientific Advisory Board
The Scientific Advisory Board serves as an interface between the publishing house and the scientific community of the Berlin University Alliance. It has at least 12 voting members (three per institution) and works closely with the Board of Directors, the operational management for books (at the University Library of the Technical University of Berlin), and the operational management for journals (at the University Library of the Free University of Berlin). Members of the Board of Directors and BerlinUP staff members participate in the meetings of the Scientific Advisory Board. The Scientific Advisory Board provides guidance on the scientific and programmatic orientation of the publishing house as well as on quality assurance.
Operational management
The operational management of the divisions is located at the participating institutions. BerlinUP Books is located at the University Library of the Technical University of Berlin and BerlinUP Journals is at the University Library of the Free University of Berlin. Managing day-to-day operations, reporting to the Board of Directors, publishing team management, and resource planning are the most important tasks.
