Online lecture: Bibliometrics - what and how does it measure? (cancelled)
The lecture explains the basics of quantitative measurement of scientific output and provides insight into the possibilities and limitations of bibliometric analyses.
As the number of scientific publications is steadily increasing and the documentation of scientific output is becoming more and more important in the course of benchmarking and funding allocation, bibliometrics is also becoming increasingly important. With the development of bibliometric services for scientists, faculties and university administrations, a new field of activity is emerging for scientific institutions and especially their libraries. However, since bibliometric indicators are often misinterpreted, it is important to establish a responsible approach to these indexes and to consciously deal with the limits of the siginificance of such analyses.
The lecture will be given by Maike Birzle-Zante (HU Berlin), who is the concact person for questions on and around bibliometrics at Berlin Universities Publishing.
